The Minister for Foreign Affairs today announced €1 million in emergency funding to the occupied Palestinian territories to help with the humanitarian crisis there
The UN estimates that some 10,000 Palestinians have been displaced as a result of the latest violence.
The Taoiseach has strongly condemned the "unjustifiable" attacks in Gaza and said that Ireland "stands in solidarity" with the people of Palestine.
Speaking in the Dáil this afternoon, Micheál Martin said that the violence was "a serious escalation" of the conflict and that Ireland was "deeply concerned" about the loss of life and the humanitarian crisis in the region.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Simon Harris, announced that Ireland will provide €1 million in emergency funding to the occupied Palestinian territories to help those who have been displaced by the violence.
The UN estimates that some 10,000 Palestinians have been displaced as a result of the latest violence, with many forced to flee their homes and seek shelter in schools and mosques.
The funding will be provided through the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and will be used to provide food, water, shelter, and other essential services to those in need.
Harris said that Ireland was "deeply concerned" about the humanitarian crisis in the region and that the funding would help to provide "much-needed assistance" to those who have been affected by the violence.
The announcement comes as the UN Security Council is set to meet later today to discuss the violence in the region.
Ireland is a member of the UN Security Council and has been calling for an end to the violence and a return to peace talks.
