Suns Rookie Ryan Dunn Blocks LeBron James, Lakers Fall to 0-2
Dunn Makes History, Suns Set Franchise Record
Suns 132, Lakers 128
PHOENIX – Phoenix Suns rookie Ryan Dunn made NBA history on Tuesday night, becoming the first player ever to block a shot by Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James in the first half of a player's NBA debut.
Dunn, the 20-year-old forward out of Villanova, got a piece of James' jump shot with 6:41 remaining in the second quarter. The block helped spark a 10-0 run for the Suns, who went on to win 132-128 and improve to 2-0 on the season.
Dunn's Block a Sign of Things to Come
Dunn's block was a symbolic moment for the Suns, who are hoping to make a playoff run this season after a disappointing 19-63 campaign in 2022-23.
The block showed that Dunn is not afraid of the moment and that he is willing to do whatever it takes to help his team win.
Suns Set Franchise Record for Blocks
In addition to Dunn's historic block, the Suns also set a franchise record for blocks in a game with 21.
The Suns were led by Deandre Ayton, who had a game-high five blocks. Mikal Bridges and Cameron Johnson each added four blocks, while Dunn had three.
Lakers Fall to 0-2
The loss dropped the Lakers to 0-2 on the season after a disappointing 114-120 home loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday night.
James led the Lakers with 31 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists. Anthony Davis added 28 points and 10 rebounds, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Suns' hot shooting.
What's Next
The Suns will host the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night. The Lakers will host the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday night.
