Matt McLain sparks Braves offense in win against Mets

Braves win 6-4 to take series opener
ATLANTA, Ga. - Matt McLain continued his hot start to the season on Tuesday night, going 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs to lead the Atlanta Braves to a 6-4 win over the New York Mets in the series opener at Truist Park. The 23-year-old shortstop is now hitting .333 with three home runs and 10 RBIs in 15 games this season.
McLain's big night started in the first inning, when he lined a single to center field to drive in the game's first run. He then hit a solo home run in the third inning to give the Braves a 2-0 lead. McLain added an RBI single in the fifth inning to make it 4-2 Braves.
The Mets rallied to tie the game in the sixth inning on a two-run home run by Pete Alonso, but the Braves regained the lead in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly by Austin Riley. McLain then drove in an insurance run in the eighth inning with a single to center field.
The Braves bullpen shut down the Mets in the final three innings to secure the win. Luke Jackson worked a perfect ninth inning to earn his first save of the season.
The win improved the Braves' record to 10-5 on the season. The Mets fell to 8-7. The two teams will face off again on Wednesday night at Truist Park.
