Kate Forbes: New whisky distillery offers us an optimistic vision of regeneration
With the construction of the GlenWyvis Distillery, Highland MP Kate Forbes has hailed the beginning of a new era for the local economy.
The new distillery, which will be located in Dingwall, is expected to create 30 new jobs and boost tourism in the area. Forbes said that the distillery is a "great example" of how investment in rural communities can create sustainable economic growth.
Scotch whisky is a major industry in Scotland, contributing £5.5 billion to the Scottish economy each year. The industry has been growing in recent years, and the construction of new distilleries is a sign of confidence in the future of the industry.
The GlenWyvis Distillery is the first new distillery to be built in the Highlands in over 30 years. It is a state-of-the-art facility that will use traditional methods to produce a high-quality single malt whisky.
The distillery is expected to produce 1 million litres of whisky per year, which will be sold to both domestic and international markets. Forbes said that the distillery will help to "put Dingwall on the map" and attract new visitors to the area.
"This is a great day for Dingwall and for the Highlands," Forbes said. "The GlenWyvis Distillery is a symbol of our commitment to investing in rural communities and creating sustainable economic growth.
"I am confident that the distillery will be a success and that it will help to create a brighter future for Dingwall and the Highlands.
