The Newest Class of Young Global Leaders Launched: Meet the Change-Makers Shaping a Sustainable Future
An Inspiring Roster of Global Change-Agents Emerges
The African Development Bank has announced the launch of its newest class of Young Global Leaders (YGLs), a prestigious program that identifies and empowers young leaders from around the globe. This year's cohort comprises 29 exceptional individuals from diverse backgrounds, united by their shared commitment to driving positive change in Africa and beyond.
The YGL program is a flagship initiative of the World Economic Forum, and the African Development Bank is one of its regional partners. The program aims to cultivate a global community of young leaders who are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and networks to make a lasting impact on the world. The YGLs selected for the 2023-2025 program represent a wide range of sectors, including business, government, civil society, academia, and the arts.
The 2023-2025 cohort of YGLs will embark on a two-year leadership journey, during which they will participate in a series of cutting-edge programs and initiatives. These include leadership development workshops, mentorship opportunities, and global networking events. The YGLs will also work on collaborative projects to address pressing global challenges, such as climate change, economic inequality, and social injustice.
Meet the Change-Makers: A Diverse and Dynamic Cohort
The 2023-2025 YGLs represent a diverse range of perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds. They hail from 22 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas, and their areas of expertise span a wide range of fields, including sustainable finance, climate change mitigation, social entrepreneurship, and public policy.
Among the notable YGLs for 2023-2025 is Joycelyn Aoko, a Kenyan climate activist and environmental scientist. Aoko is the founder of the Green Belt Movement, a grassroots organization that has planted over 51 million trees in Africa. She is also a recipient of the prestigious Goldman Environmental Prize.
Another inspiring YGL is Dr. Arvind Kumar, an Indian physician and public health advocate. Kumar is the founder of the Public Health Foundation of India, a non-profit organization that works to improve health outcomes in underserved communities. He is also a vocal advocate for global health equity.
The YGL program has a proven track record of developing exceptional leaders who go on to make significant contributions to their communities and the world. The 2023-2025 cohort is poised to continue this legacy, and the African Development Bank is proud to support them on their journey.
