Watch coin expert reveal the two rarest 50ps worth up to 195 times face value – and key details to look for

Two of the rarest 50p coins in circulation are worth up to £97.50 – almost 200 times their face value.

Change checkers should keep an eye out for the Kew Gardens 50p and the 2009 Football 50p, according to coin expert Daniel Skinner of ChangeChecker.org.

Just 210,000 Kew Gardens 50p coins were minted in 2009, making it one of the rarest coins in circulation. The coin features a design by Christopher Ironside, and shows the Chinese Pagoda in the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew, west London.

The 2009 Football 50p was released to commemorate the Football Association’s 150th anniversary.

It was designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, and features a football on one side and the Queen's head on the other.

Just over 1.8 million of the coins were made, making them less rare than the Kew Gardens 50p but still valuable.

Both coins have sold for up to £97.50 on eBay, although the average selling price is closer to £70.

Mr Skinner said: "These are two of the most sought-after 50p coins in circulation today, so it's worth checking your change to see if you have one.

"If you do, you could be sitting on a small fortune."

Here are some key details to look for when checking your change:

If you find one of these rare coins, you can sell it on eBay or through a coin dealer.
