Trump winning New York would be ‘landslide, Reagan-scale’ election, Newt Gingrich declares
Newt Gingrich says Trump winning New York would be a 'landslide'
If Donald Trump wins New York, it will be a "landslide, Reagan-scale" election, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Sunday.
Gingrich made the comments on "Fox News Sunday," where he said that a Trump victory in New York would be a "huge" win for the Republican presidential candidate.
"If he wins New York, it's a landslide, Reagan-scale," Gingrich said. "It's a huge win."
Trump is currently trailing in the polls in New York
Trump is currently trailing in the polls in New York, but Gingrich said that he believes Trump can still win the state.
"I think he can win New York," Gingrich said. "I think he's going to have to work hard, but I think he can do it."
Gingrich said that Trump's message of "change" is resonating with voters in New York.
"People are looking for change," Gingrich said. "They're looking for somebody who's going to shake things up, and I think Trump is that person."
New York is a key swing state in the presidential election
New York is a key swing state in the presidential election, and a Trump victory there would be a major boost to his chances of winning the presidency.
The state has 29 electoral votes, and it has not voted for a Republican presidential candidate since 1984.
If Trump can win New York, it would be a major upset, and it would give him a significant advantage in the Electoral College.
