Speaker attacks Reeves for releasing Budget secrets
State secrets bill leaves Speaker fuming
The Speaker of the House has accused the Labor leader of “political opportunism” and a “gross breach of trust” after he released confidential budget details.
The confidential budget was leaked to the media yesterday, revealing a number of tax increases and spending cuts that were not included in the government's pre-budget announcement.
The Speaker said the leak was a “serious attack on our democracy” and called on the Labor leader to withdraw the document and apologise.
“This is a gross breach of trust,” the Speaker said.
"The Leader of the Opposition has shown a complete lack of respect for the institution of parliament and the people of this state.”
The Labor leader has defended his decision to release the budget, saying he was “obliged to share this information with the people of this state” because the government was “trying to hide the truth”.
