South Jersey's bid on Shohei Ohtani's historic 50-homer ball hits $2.1 million

A South Jersey memorabilia collector has bid $2.1 million for Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani's historic 50th home run ball.

Ken Goldin, the president of Goldin Auctions, is one of several bidders vying for the ball, which was hit on September 17, 2022, against the Oakland Athletics.

If Goldin's bid is successful, it would be the most money ever paid for a home run ball.

The current record is $3.4 million, which was paid for Barry Bonds' 756th home run ball in 2007. Goldin is a lifelong sports fan and collector who has been in the memorabilia business for over 35 years.

He has auctioned off some of the most iconic sports memorabilia in history, including Babe Ruth's bat from his 600th home run and Michael Jordan's game-worn shoes from the 1992 NBA Finals.

Goldin said he is confident that he will be able to acquire Ohtani's 50th home run ball. He said the ball is a "unique and historic piece of memorabilia" that will be a valuable addition to his collection.

"This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a piece of baseball history," Goldin said. "I am confident that I will be able to acquire this ball and add it to my collection."

The auction for Ohtani's 50th home run ball is scheduled to close on October 19, 2022.

If Goldin's bid is successful, he will be the proud owner of one of the most valuable pieces of sports memorabilia in the world.
