Ranji Trophy: No play likely on Day I of Jharkhand-Chandigarh
Rain, wet outfield delay start
Match to begin at 11:30 am IST tomorrow
Ranchi: The opening day's play of the Ranji Trophy match between Jharkhand and Chandigarh was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to rain and a wet outfield on Tuesday. The match will now begin at 11:30 am IST on Wednesday with 90 overs to be bowled each day.
The Jharkhand team, led by Ishan Kishan, won the toss and elected to bat. However, the rain started soon after and the ground staff were unable to get the outfield ready for play.
This is the second time in a row that the start of a Ranji Trophy match has been delayed due to rain. On Monday, the match between Mumbai and Saurashtra was also abandoned without a ball being bowled.
The Ranji Trophy is India's premier domestic cricket tournament. It is contested by 38 teams, representing different states and union territories of India.
Jharkhand are the defending champions, having won the title in 2021-22. Chandigarh are making their debut in the tournament this year.
The match between Jharkhand and Chandigarh is being played at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi.
