Erik Ten Hag: Manchester United 'contacted' Ajax boss over managerial role
Erik Ten Hag is reportedly in contention to be named the next Manchester United manager.
The 52-year-old Dutchman has been linked with the Old Trafford job following the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November.
And now, according to a report from The Independent, United have made contact with Ten Hag's representatives.
Ten Hag has been in charge of Ajax since 2017 and has won two Eredivisie titles and a KNVB Cup during his time at the club.
He also led Ajax to the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2019, where they were narrowly beaten by Tottenham Hotspur.
Ten Hag is known for his attacking style of play and his ability to develop young players.
He would be a popular choice with Manchester United fans, who are keen to see the club appoint a manager with a proven track record of success.
However, it is unclear whether Ten Hag would be willing to leave Ajax at this stage of his career.
The Dutch club are on course to win another Eredivisie title this season and are also in contention for the Champions League.
Ten Hag has also spoken of his desire to stay at Ajax for the long-term.
If Ten Hag does decide to leave Ajax, Manchester United will face competition from other clubs for his signature.
Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are both believed to be interested in the Dutchman.
However, Manchester United are confident that they can persuade Ten Hag to join them.
The club are in need of a new manager who can bring success back to Old Trafford.
Ten Hag would be a popular choice with the fans and the board, and he would be given the backing to build a team that can challenge for major trophies.
