Nund Rishi, Holiday Announced for Altaf Bukhari's Anniversary in Srinagar on October 30

In commemoration of the death anniversary of renowned Kashmiri Sufi saint Hazrat Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani, also known as Nund Rishi, the Jammu and Kashmir government has declared October 30th, 2023, as a public holiday in Srinagar.

The announcement was made by Altaf Bukhari, Advisor to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, during a high-level meeting held on October 25th, 2023, at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar.

Bukhari stated that the holiday is being observed to pay homage to the great saint and his teachings, which continue to inspire people across the region.

He emphasized the importance of promoting the legacy of Nund Rishi, who is revered for his message of love, compassion, and unity.

The government has also planned various events and activities to mark the occasion, including religious gatherings, cultural performances, and seminars.

Nund Rishi was born in the village of Charar-i-Sharief in central Kashmir in 1377 C.E. and is considered one of the most influential figures in Kashmiri history.

His teachings, known as Rishi-ism, emphasize the importance of love, harmony, and service to humanity.

Nund Rishi is also credited with introducing the Kashmiri language to written form and was a prolific poet and writer in his own right.

His shrine in Charar-i-Sharief is a popular pilgrimage site for people from all over the world.
