MLB projects record revenue for 2024 season
Commissioner Rob Manfred says league expects to surpass $11 billion in revenue
Major League Baseball (MLB) is projected to generate record revenue in the 2024 season, according to Commissioner Rob Manfred. Speaking at the league's annual owners' meetings, Manfred said he expects revenue to surpass $11 billion, up from $10.7 billion in 2023.
Increased viewership and attendance driving revenue growth
According to Manfred, the league's increased viewership and attendance are driving the revenue growth. MLB saw a 7% increase in regular-season viewership in 2023, and attendance is expected to increase by 5% in 2024. The league is also benefiting from a new national television contract with Fox Sports that will begin in 2024.
New media deals and sponsorships contributing to revenue growth
In addition to increased viewership and attendance, MLB is also benefiting from new media deals and sponsorships. The league recently signed a deal with Apple TV+ to stream Friday Night Baseball games, and it has also signed new sponsorship deals with companies such as Nike and PepsiCo. MLB's revenue is also growing from increased digital streaming revenue as more fans watch games online.
MLB expecting continued growth in 2025 and beyond
Manfred said he is confident that MLB's revenue will continue to grow in 2025 and beyond. The league is planning to expand to Montreal in 2025, and it is also exploring the possibility of adding new teams in other cities. MLB is also planning to implement new technologies to enhance the fan experience, such as virtual reality and augmented reality.
