Marlins down to two finalists for their managerial job
Don Mattingly, the former manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Skip Schumaker, the current bench coach of the St. Louis Cardinals, are the two finalists for the Marlins' managerial job
The Marlins have been in search of a new manager since they fired Mike Redmond on September 29th. Mattingly, 55, has managed the Dodgers for the past five seasons, and has a record of 446-363. Schumaker, 41, has been the Cardinals' bench coach since 2017, and has no managerial experience.
Mattingly is the more experienced manager, but Schumaker is the younger and more up-and-coming candidate
Mattingly has a wealth of experience, and has managed some of the best players in the game, including Clayton Kershaw, Cody Bellinger, and Justin Turner. He has also led the Dodgers to the playoffs in each of the past five seasons.
Schumaker, on the other hand, is a rising star in the coaching ranks. He has been credited with helping to develop some of the Cardinals' young players, including Paul Goldschmidt and Jack Flaherty. He is also known for his work with hitters, and has helped to improve the Cardinals' offense in recent years.
The Marlins are expected to make a decision on their next manager by the end of the week
The Marlins are hoping to find a manager who can lead them to their first World Series title since 2003. Mattingly and Schumaker are both qualified candidates, and it will be interesting to see who the Marlins ultimately choose.
