Man Utd Make Ruben Amorim Enquiries as Possible Erik ten Hag Successor Despite Man City Links
Red Devils In Contention for Sporting Boss
Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim as a potential successor to Erik ten Hag, despite the Portuguese manager being heavily linked with Manchester City.
Ten Hag is the current favorite to take over at Old Trafford in the summer, but United are said to be exploring other options in case the Dutchman opts to stay at Ajax.
Amorim has impressed at Sporting, leading the club to the Primeira Liga title last season and the Champions League knockout stages this season.
The 37-year-old is also a former player for Manchester City, having spent two seasons at the Etihad Stadium between 2009 and 2011.
United are said to be impressed by Amorim's attacking style of play and his ability to get the best out of young players.
The Red Devils are also said to be aware of Amorim's release clause, which is set at around £10 million.
If United were to sign Amorim, it would be a major coup for the club.
The Portuguese manager is one of the most highly-rated young coaches in Europe and he would be a great addition to the Old Trafford dugout.
However, it remains to be seen whether Amorim would be interested in leaving Sporting, especially if Manchester City come calling.
The Citizens are also in the market for a new manager, with Pep Guardiola's contract set to expire at the end of the season.
Amorim is believed to be Guardiola's preferred successor, and it would be a major blow to Manchester City if he were to join their rivals.
