Accident on M1 near East Midlands Airport prompts police investigation
Leicestershire Police are investigating a collision on the M1 near East Midlands Airport
The incident, which involved two lorries and a car, happened on the northbound carriageway at around 10.30am today (June 16).
Emergency services, including Leicestershire Police, East Midlands Ambulance Service and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, attended the scene.
The road was closed in both directions between junctions 23A (Loughborough) and 24 (East Midlands Airport) while emergency services dealt with the incident.
The northbound carriageway has since reopened, but the southbound carriageway remains closed while recovery work takes place.
A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: "We are investigating a collision on the M1 near East Midlands Airport which happened at around 10.30am today."
"The collision involved two lorries and a car and resulted in the closure of the northbound and southbound carriageways between junctions 23A and 24."
"The northbound carriageway has since reopened, but the southbound carriageway remains closed while recovery work takes place."
