Gibby reacts to Freddie's iconic homer: ‘I love passing the torch’
Freddie Freeman's iconic homer gave the Dodgers a 3-1 lead in the NLDS — and it sent the former Brave to Gibby Jones
Gibby Jones was in the on-deck circle when Freddie Freeman hit his iconic homer in Game 1 of the NLDS. He watched as the ball soared over the center-field wall, giving the Dodgers a 3-1 lead. And he couldn't have been happier.
"I love passing the torch," Jones said. "Freddie is a great player, and he's been a great teammate. I'm so happy for him."
Jones, 29, is in his first season with the Dodgers. He was acquired from the Braves in a trade in July. He has been a valuable contributor to the Dodgers, hitting .280 with 10 homers and 40 RBIs in 63 games.
But Jones knows that he is not the star of this team. That honor belongs to Freeman, who is one of the best hitters in baseball. Freeman led the NL in batting average in 2020, and he is a four-time All-Star.
Jones is happy to play a supporting role to Freeman. He knows that Freeman is the key to the Dodgers' success.
"Freddie is the best hitter in baseball," Jones said. "He's the guy we all look up to. I'm just trying to do my part to help him win."
Freeman's homer was a big moment for the Dodgers. It gave them a much-needed lead in the NLDS. And it showed that Freeman is still one of the best hitters in baseball.
Jones is just happy to be a part of it.
"I'm just trying to do my part," Jones said. "I'm just trying to help the team win."
