Giants Week 1 Stats: Offense Struggles, Defense Shines
Giants' Offense Fails to Impress in Week 1 Loss
The New York Giants' offense sputtered in their season opener, failing to score a touchdown in a 23-16 loss to the Denver Broncos. Quarterback Daniel Jones completed just 17 of 32 passes for 202 yards, with one interception and no touchdowns.
The Giants' running game was equally ineffective, with Saquon Barkley rushing for just 25 yards on 14 carries. The offensive line struggled to create running lanes, and Barkley was often met by a wall of Broncos defenders.
Giants' Defense Keeps Them in the Game
Despite the offensive struggles, the Giants' defense kept them in the game. The unit forced three turnovers, including two interceptions by cornerback James Bradberry. The Giants also held the Broncos to just 248 yards of offense.
The Giants' pass rush was particularly impressive, with defensive end Leonard Williams recording two sacks. The defense also did a good job of containing Broncos running back Javonte Williams, who was held to just 12 rushing yards.
What's Next for the Giants?
The Giants will look to bounce back in Week 2 when they host the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers are coming off a 24-9 win over the Browns, so the Giants will need to be much better on offense to avoid an 0-2 start.
Jones will need to play better, and the offensive line will need to give him more time to throw. The Giants will also need to find a way to get Barkley more involved in the offense. If they can do those things, they should be able to compete with the Panthers.
