Emiliano Martínez Wins Yachine Trophy for Best Goalkeeper

Emiliano Martínez has been named the winner of the 2022 Yachine Trophy for Best Goalkeeper at Monday's Ballon d'Or ceremony. The Aston Villa and Argentina goalkeeper beat out Real Madrid's Thibaut Courtois and Manchester City's Ederson for the award.
Emiliano Martínez's Performance
Martínez has been in excellent form for both club and country over the past year. He was a key figure in Argentina's Copa América triumph in 2021, saving three penalties in the semi-final shootout against Colombia. He also played a starring role in Aston Villa's run to the Carabao Cup final last season, saving two penalties in the semi-final against Leicester City.
Yachine Trophy History
The Yachine Trophy is named after Lev Yashin, the legendary Soviet goalkeeper who is considered one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time. The trophy was first awarded in 2019 to Alisson Becker of Liverpool.
Other Award Winners
Karim Benzema won the 2022 Ballon d'Or award for Best Player, while Gavi won the Kopa Trophy for Best Young Player. FC Barcelona won the Women's Ballon d'Or award for Best Women's Player.
