PIP and DLA Claimants Can Get £750 to Get New Items
New Costs of Living Payment hits bank accounts on 1st September - is it taxable?
People claiming certain benefits can get up to £750 to help pay for items to help them with their disability.
The government has confirmed that the payment will be made to people who received a payment of PIP or DLA on 25 May 2022. The payment will be made automatically into the bank accounts of those who are eligible.
The payment is not taxable and will not affect any other benefits that you receive. The money can be used to buy anything that will help you with your disability. This could include things like a new wheelchair, a disability scooter, or a stairlift.
The government has not confirmed if any further payments will be made but if you think you are eligible, you should contact the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to check.
Who can get the payment?
- You must have been getting PIP or DLA on 25 May 2022.
- You must have a disability that is so severe it means you can’t work.
- You must be living in England, Scotland or Wales.
How to claim the payment
You do not need to claim the payment. It will be paid automatically into your bank account on 1st September.
If you have any questions about the payment, you can contact the DWP on 0800 121 4616.
The payment is part of a package of support that the government is providing to help people with the cost of living. Other measures include a £400 energy bill discount, a £150 council tax rebate and a £650 one-off payment for people on low incomes.
