Changes To The Motability Scheme
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has issued a warning to people who claim certain benefits and have a car through the Motability Scheme.
From September 11, new rules will be introduced which could see some people having to pay back up to £750.
Who Is Affected?
The changes will affect people who claim the following benefits:
- Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
- Attendance Allowance

If you claim one of these benefits and have a car through the Motability Scheme, you will need to contact the DWP to find out if you are affected by the changes.
What Are The Changes?
The main change is that the DWP will now be taking into account the value of your car when calculating your benefits.
How Much Will I Have To Pay Back?
The amount you will have to pay back will depend on the value of your car and the amount of benefit you receive.
The DWP has said that some people could have to pay back up to £750.
What Should I Do If I Am Affected?
If you think you may be affected by the changes, you should contact the DWP as soon as possible.
