Dalmuir tower block evacuated and bomb squad called after 'suspicious' item found
What happened?
A tower block in Dalmuir was evacuated on Tuesday evening after a "suspicious" item was found.
Police were called to the scene at around 7pm and the bomb squad was also called in.
The item was found in a flat in the block and was described as a "small, cylindrical object".
What did the police say?
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 7pm on Tuesday, 28 February, following the discovery of a suspicious item within a property in Dalmuir, Clydebank. “The property was evacuated as a precaution and the EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) attended and examined the item. “The item was found to be non-viable and there was no threat to the public. “We would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding.”
What did the fire service say?
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 7.03pm on Tuesday, February 28 to assist Police Scotland at an incident on Dumbarton Road, Dalmuir.
"Operations Control mobilised one appliance to the scene and firefighters left after being stood down by police."
What did the council say?
West Dunbartonshire Council said: "The council is aware of an ongoing police incident in Dalmuir and is working with Police Scotland to ensure the safety of residents.
"The council has made alternative accommodation available to those residents who have been evacuated from their homes."
