Zeller Headed to Washington
The Atlanta Hawks have traded center Cody Zeller to the Washington Wizards for center Montrezl Harrell, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. The deal was made just before the NBA's trade deadline on Thursday, February 9, 2023.
Zeller, 29, is a veteran of nine NBA seasons. He was drafted fourth overall by the Charlotte Hornets in the 2013 NBA draft. He has also played for the Brooklyn Nets and Portland Trail Blazers.
Zeller is a 6'11", 240-pound center who is known for his rebounding and defense. He is averaging 5.8 points and 6.3 rebounds per game this season.
Harrell Headed to Atlanta
Harrell, 29, is a two-time NBA Sixth Man of the Year. He won the award in 2020 with the Los Angeles Clippers and in 2021 with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Harrell is a 6'7", 240-pound center who is known for his scoring and rebounding. He is averaging 14.1 points and 6.7 rebounds per game this season.
Impact of the Trade
The trade is a good move for both teams. The Hawks get a younger, more athletic center in Harrell. The Wizards get a veteran center in Zeller who can help them compete for a playoff spot.
The Hawks are currently 29-30 and in ninth place in the Eastern Conference. The Wizards are currently 28-31 and in 10th place in the Eastern Conference.
