Bedford receives $1.4 million federal grant for new passenger rail stop

City will use funds to build new platform and improve accessibility at existing station

Project expected to be completed by 2025

The City of Bedford has been awarded a $1.4 million federal grant to build a new passenger rail stop and improve accessibility at the existing station. The grant was awarded by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) through its Passenger Rail Investment and Improvement Act (PRIIA) program.

The new passenger rail stop will be located at the intersection of Main Street and Elm Street, near the center of Bedford. The stop will include a new platform, a new shelter, and improved lighting. The existing station will also be upgraded to make it more accessible to people with disabilities.

The project is expected to be completed by 2025. Once completed, the new passenger rail stop will provide Bedford residents with a convenient and affordable way to travel to and from major cities in the region.

“This is a great day for Bedford,” said Mayor John Smith. “This grant will allow us to build a new passenger rail stop that will make it easier for our residents to get to and from work, school, and other destinations.”

The FRA’s PRIIA program provides funding for the construction, improvement, and maintenance of passenger rail facilities. The program is designed to improve the safety, reliability, and efficiency of passenger rail service in the United States.

The City of Bedford is one of 20 communities in the United States to receive a PRIIA grant this year. The FRA awarded a total of $30 million in grants to support passenger rail projects across the country.
